Merapi Volcano Emergency Response - American Red Cross

The American Red Crosshelps vulnerable people around the world to prevent, prepare for and respond to disasters, complex humanitarian emergencies and life-threatening health conditions. It is a member of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and works with Palang Merah Indonesia. 

Following the Merapi Volcano Emergency Response in November 2010, American Red Cross recently propose emergency fund from its donor. To anticipate the awards, therefore, the American Red Cross iscurrently seeking some positions for short terms contract as below:


1. Post Title : Watsan Engineering Officer/1 person
    Unit : Merapi Volcano Emergency Response
    P
rogram Contract Duration : 2 months
    Base of assignment : Yogyakarta
    Report to : Program Advisor DM-Development


    Duties applicable to all
    • Work towards the achievement of American Red Cross goals in the country/region of operation through effective managerial, lateral relations and teamwork
    • Ensure understanding of roles, responsibilities, lateral relationships and accountabilities
    • Perform other work related duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the supervisor
Duties and Responsibilities
This position wills coverage all working areas of Merapi Vulcano Emergency Response including Sleman, Magelang, Klaten and Boyolali district:
  • In cooperation with Program Advisor to lead all technical input required for the implementation of WASH intervention i.e. construction of semi permanent latrines, hand wash facilitation and sanitation facilities
  • Manage construction of semi permanent latrines, hand wash facilitation and sanitation facilities including by conducting monitoring, supervision and providing technical assistant
  • To provide on site technical support to ARC field officer, PMI staffs and PMI volunteer
  • Support Hygiene Promoter by providing technical assistant on approach method and strategy of Hygiene Promotion Program 
 
Qualifications
  • Civil Engineering degree 
  • Minimum 5 years working experience in design, construction of WASH projects and Hygiene Promotion Program in Indonesia 
  • Knowing participatory approach in working with villagers and basic principles of the participatory approach
  • Self-motivated, with good judgment and initiative.
  • Able to prioritize, meet deadlines, and achieve results through collaboration.
  • Strong commitment to quality assurance and seeing real impact from work
  • Must be flexible and adaptive to change
  • Available to work during weekend 
  • Good in English (writing, speaking, reading) and fluent Javanese language (speaking) is an asset
  • Computer literate, especially CADD, Power point, Microsoft Word and Excel 

2. 
Post Title: Field Officer/1 person
Unit : Merapi Volcano Emergency Response Program
Contract Duration : 2 months
Base of assignment : Yogyakarta
Report to : Program Advisor DM-Development
 
Duties applicable to all
  • Work towards the achievement of American Red Cross goals in the country/region of operation through effective managerial, lateral relations and teamwork
  • Ensure understanding of roles, responsibilities, lateral relationships and accountabilities
  • Perform other work related duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the supervisor
Duties and Responsibilities
This position wills coverage all working areas of Merapi Vulcano Emergency Response including Sleman, Magelang, Klaten and Boyolali district:
  • In cooperation with Program Advisor to lead and coordinating the relief distribution, and water trucking program to serve targeted POSKOs in the area. 
  • Manage day to day relief distribution and delivering water to IDPs in targeted POSKOs as scheduled 
  • Working closely with PMI staff and volunteer and represent in all coordination related relief, water and IDPs issues. 
  • Working closely with PMI ERT and PDAM in each targeted branches.
  • Support ARC finance officer by keeping all of administration and financial document required
  • To provide on site technical support to PMI staffs and PMI volunteer
  • Line managed 1 driver, 15 latrines attendants and 15 PMI field assistants.
Qualifications
  • University degree is preferable
  • Minimum 3 years working experience in emergency relief
  • Self-motivated, with good judgment and initiative.
  • Able to prioritize, meet deadlines, and achieve results through collaboration.
  • Strong commitment to quality assurance and seeing real impact from work
  • Must be flexible and adaptive to change
  • Available to work during weekend 
  • Good in English (writing, speaking, reading) and fluent Javanese language (speaking) is an asset
  • Computer literate, especially Microsoft Word and Excel

3. 
Post Title : Hygiene Promoter/1 person

Unit : Merapi Volcano Emergency Response Program
Contract Duration : 2 months
Base of assignment : Yogyakarta
Report to : Program Advisor DM-Development
 
Duties applicable to all
  • Work towards the achievement of American Red Cross goals in the country/region of operation through effective managerial, lateral relations and teamwork
  • Ensure understanding of roles, responsibilities, lateral relationships and accountabilities
  • Perform other work related duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the supervisor
Duties and Responsibilities
This position wills coverage all working areas of Merapi Vulcano Emergency Response including Sleman, Magelang, Klaten and Boyolali district:
  • In cooperation with Program Advisor to lead and coordinating hygiene promotion program including hand washing, correct water usage and storage to serve targeted POSKOs in the area. 
  • Conduct field assessment on hygiene practices of the community at initial stage of project and for monitoring purposes through relevant methods
  • Support the implementation of active campaign for hygiene practices through using local resources closely with PMI volunteers
  • Active in contributing ideas and initiative to improve hygiene promotion techniques
  • Working closely with PMI staff and volunteer and represent in all coordination related relief, water and IDPs issues. 
  •  To provide on site technical support to PMI staffs and PMI volunteer
  • Line managed 5 PMI field assistants.
Qualifications
  • University degree is preferable, with Community Health as a background
  • Minimum 3 years working experience in hygiene promotion program within emergency response
  • Self-motivated, with good judgment and initiative.
  • Able to prioritize, meet deadlines, and achieve results through collaboration.
  • Strong commitment to quality assurance and seeing real impact from work
  • Must be flexible and adaptive to change
  • Available to work during weekend 
  • Good in English (writing, speaking, reading) and fluent Javanese language (speaking) is an asset
  • Computer literate, especially Microsoft Word and Excel
